Description:
Located in Florianopolis, this project works hard to keep children off of the streets. For over 50 years it has served the underprivileged children in the center of this city.
Approximately 300 children, ages 8 -12 years old, benefit from this community center. These are children who have difficulties with their studies and the project helps to keep them away from the streets. The children are separated by age in the morning and afternoon. Each group participate in various activities during the week, including recreation, drawing, painting, writing, singing, playing games, reading, listening to stories, preparing theater projects, etc.
There is an emphasis on teaching the children the importance of the environment by teaching techniques for material recycling, re-use of materials, etc. There is also a daycare at the center for children up to age 4.

Requirements:
- Participants must be 18 years or older.
- Knowledge of Portuguese is highly recommended.
- A CV, letter of recommendation, and letter to the host family is required.
Activities:
Volunteer Activities May Include:
- Help teachers with education activities including, drawing, painting, writing, singing songs, reading, preparing play presentations, etc.
- Help teachers with recreational activities
- Help maintain the cleanliness and order in the rooms.

Working Hours:
8 – noon, 2 -5 Monday through Friday
